![]() When I was first introduced to the idea of yoga as a science I was resistant. I was trained as an engineer and passionate about science and something was missing for me. What was missing was a deeper understanding of the word science, which comes from the latin scire, which means "to know". In the western world we have sought to know and understand the material world. In the east they have sought to know and understand the inner world. That would seem just as valid a science as the one we know so well in our world. And with that interpretation of science we can possibly find a new interpretation for technology. Technology is understood to be the application of scientific knowledge for practical applications. Its origin lies in the greek word, Technologia, means "systematic treatment". When our knowledge is of the material world we are inclined to create technology in the material realm. The great yogis have shown that even though they have sought knowledge of the inner world they have knowledge of the material world, many times they have never even studied a book to acquire this knowledge. These same yogis have created just as many awesome things in the material world as a result of this knowledge, all with the focus of bringing forth the potential that exists within mankind. There is a real push by many scientists and inventors to bring forward free energy technologies based upon a deeper understanding of the cosmos and the ether. The theory goes that they tap into the unlimited energy of the universe. If the principles of yoga are to be believed, and I happen to believe they are, then we ourselves can tap into that infinite reservoir of energy and share it with the world. Gurus transmit their energy and are never depleted, having full faith in the infinite energy of the universe and their access to it. Those of us mortals who have not fully accepted our true oneness with the source of all life can be depleted by the energy vampires of the world. It is important that we recognise our limitations so as not to make life more difficult for ourselves or others. At the same time it gives us hope for what is possible for ourselves. "If the attention reaches that level [pure consciousness], what happens is like the small pebble falling on the silent bed of the water. A small pebble falls, creating impulses. Those impulses reach all the far places and all the water. Just like that, when the conscious mind of one single individual transcends, we can imagine the thrills being created on that silent level of consciousness, which is the omnipresent reality. This pulsating consciousness of the individual creates impulses of life all over, and because this is the very fundamental level of everyone, everyone’s thinking, everyone’s consciousness is influenced by that. It is very easy to understand." - Maharishi Mahesh Yogi And so perhaps technology can mean something new when we have personal access to the unified field. Those who already have access to the infinite source recognise abundance as a birthright and live to bring that awareness to others. If abundance for all is what current material technologies are seeking to achieve and yoga (which simply means "union" with source) is a science, then perhaps we ourselves are the technologies that we have been waiting for! We simply need to find our own way of unifying with that source.
